Our craft · Vacuum kiln drying
Character in the grain. Confidence in the drying.
We're a hands-on, family-run sawmill. Our wood is air dried first, then kiln dried — every slab or board we sell or work with is kiln dried, not just left to season in the yard.
We take our wood to an offsite facility with state-of-the-art vacuum kilns. Vacuum kiln drying draws moisture from deep inside thick slabs and large timbers, helping achieve thorough drying while minimizing drying defects and preserving the wood's natural character.

In the yard
Rare wood, actually in stock.
We use and keep a lot of wood you won't find at a lumber yard — figured grain, spalted slabs, burls, and reclaimed or salvaged timber from around the Quad Cities. What's in the racks changes with every log we cut. All wood we sell is kiln dried — call ahead or arrange a visit to pick your board.

Figured wood
Curly, fiddleback and ribbon grain that only shows up once the board is cut and oiled.

Spalted wood
Black lines drawn by the tree itself. No two spalted slabs ever come out the same.

Burls
Wild-figure burl and root slabs, cut and dried for one-of-a-kind tops and accents.

Reclaimed & salvaged
Storm, yard and barn wood saved from the burn pile and milled into something new.
